The Rangers knocked off the Athletics yesterday and that set them at 16-11 on the month. Not bad considering they’re a game ahead of second place but they’re also only 3 1/2 games back of the last place Mariners. And you also have the two halves of the month. The Rangers started 9-1 but since then they’ve gone 7-10.
If you have to name the hitting stars it’s probably Michael Young and Adrian Beltre. Young doesn’t seemed to be phased much by his shuffling around and he’s hitting .342 with nineteen RBIs and 15 runs. Beltre is hitting .269 with a team high seven home runs and 22 RBIs. Overall, the Rangers have the second best batting average in the American League at .270 and they trail just the Indians at .272. Their 140 runs is also second best just a single run behind the Indians.
C.J. Wilson has been one of the best pitcher so far. He has three wins with a 3.35 ERA and 34 strikeouts. Derek Holland needs to get his 5/21 ERA down but he has 27 strikeouts and three wins. Probably the best hurler though has been Alexi Ogando, who is 3-0 with 21 strikeouts and a 2.30 ERA. Overall, the Rangers have a 3.89 ERA, which is good for seventh in the American League.
The Rangers have one more game against the A’s before they start a four game set with the Mariners at Seattle. Hopefully the Rangers can bounce Gio Gonzalez around then take three of four against the Mariners. I like the Rangers chances going forward which is why I’m going to spring for some Rangers tickets here soon. If it’s July and this team is still rolling, you’ll more fans in the seats.
