The good news is, the Rangers had their best month of the season in July by going 18-9. They had their twelve game winning streak and that accounted for most of it. The bad news is, at months they still sit with just a two game lead after being up by as many as five games mid-month. Still, first place is first place and I’ll take it. Rangers tickets are selling too and as we get closer to the end of the season, you’d have to think it’s going to be tougher and tougher to get into the game.
The team went out on a losing note with a 7-3 loss to the Jays and they lost that series in their rubber game. C.J. Wilson fell to 10-5 with a rough start. He gave up seven runs on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. After that, four relievers combined to hold the Jays scoreless but the damage was done.
Mike Napoli went two for four with two RBIs in the loss. Josh Hamilton went two for four with two runs. Not sure how odd this is, but the Rangers went the whole game without adjusting their lineup. No defensive replacements, no pinch hitters.
There’s no rest for the weary because next up are the first place Tigers. Hopefully the Rangers can have an equally successful August and put some games between them and the Angels.
